James F. Keenan, 95, of Downingtown, PA, formerly of Upper Darby, PA, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2017.
Born in Philadelphia in 1921, he was the son of the late William J. and Katherine Marie (nee Knoud) Keenan.
Jim served in the United States Army during World War II and was a decorated veteran where he received the Combat Infantryman Medal, the Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He loved spending time at the Jersey shore - - Sea Isle, Wildwood, and Atlantic City. He was an avid Phillies fan. He enjoyed family photography and always had his camera and/or camcorder by his side. He was a great storyteller and lover of history and passed this interest on to many of his children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. For 38 years, he was a dedicated Federal Government employee, starting his career with the Veteran's Administration, with the majority of his career with the Social Security Administration ending as a Director of Facilities Management. Jim was most proud to have received the Commissioner's Citation in 1973 from the Social Security Administration for outstanding demonstration of leadership skills.
Jim was the beloved husband for 56 years to the late Regina F. (nee Gilmore) Keenan; devoted father of Regina Angiolillo (Gene), Tricia Affannato (Joe Wall), Claire Curran (Bob), Thomas Keenan (Maureen) and the late James Keenan; dear father-in-law of Joann Keenan; loving brother to Betty Stevens. Jim is also survived by his grandchildren Erin (Kevin), Jason (Mary), Greg (Theresa), Lorrie (Stephen), Michael, Sean, Katie (Tom), Maggie, Tim, Eileen and Jason Wall, and his great-grandchildren Hannah, Shayna, Gavin, Barrett, Juliet, and Isabel.
