James ”Jim” C. McDonald, 85, of Broomall, PA, passed away on April 30, 2022.
Born in 1936 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William and Alice (née Gilson) McDonald.
Jim lived his life on his own terms, with no regrets. He loved his breakfasts with the “Barfly Group” at the Apple Walnut Café and dinners with Jimmy and Katrina Costalas, Nora Fryer, Bubba and the rest of his adopted family at Charlotte’s Restaurant.
Jim served honorably in the US Army during peacetime, serving in the Arctic Circle as a driver for Wernher von Braun, pioneer of rocket and space technology for NASA. He worked for many years at Villanova University in the Maintenance Department.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Carmellina “Carmine” (née DeRose) McDonald; loving father of Annemarie Mountz (John Balogh); proud grandfather of Rachel Mountz, Kirk Mountz, Anne Strauser (Matt) and Matthew Balogh (Baylee Robey); great-grandfather of Noah; dear brother of Alice Halbe and Marie Gift; Uncle of Sam DeRose (Tina), Carmen Amodei (Sheila) and many other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Anne (née McDonald) Kane and William McDonald; and his son-in-law, Bill Mountz Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Graveside Service 11:00 AM Friday, May 13, 2022, at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery Mausoleum, Springfield.
