James F. Monagle, 56, of West Chester, Pa and formerly of Yeadon, PA passed away peacefully with his brothers by his side on July 23, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Lung Cancer.
Jim was born on October 17,1960 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the youngest son of the late Joseph T. and Marie F. (Breslin) Monagle, Sr. He grew up in Yeadon, Pa and was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School Class of 1978.
Jim had a life long commitment to community service as a volunteer with the Yeadon Fire Company # 1 and then as a Paramedic with Ambucare. This was followed by a dedicated 30 year career with UPS. Most recently, he served as the Vice President and Business Agent with the Teamsters Union Local 384.
Jim enjoyed music. He played the saxophone and was a life long member of the Quaker City String Band. He could be found strutting down Broad Street each New Year's Day for the Annual Mummer's Parade. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
In his free time Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and would often be seen wearing one of his many Notre Dame baseball hats. He also was very proud of his Irish heritage. Jim enjoyed playing golf and watching baseball.
Jim was the dear brother of Joseph T. Monagle, Jr. (Angela) and Thomas W. Monagle (Martha); loving uncle of Joseph T. Monagle III (Maria), Elizabeth A. Stepenaskie (Michael), Thomas W. Monagle Jr., Sean P. Monagle, and Ian T. Monagle; great-uncle of Joseph T. Monagle, IV.
Relatives, friends, fellow members of Teamsters Local 384, members of UPS, and members of Quaker City String Band are invited to attend his Viewing from 6:00-9:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2017 and 9:00-10:00 AM on Friday at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, Pa 19382, 610-431-9000, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Friday, July 28, 2017 at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester, PA. Interment will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, Pa 19064.
