James P. Nolan Jr., 90, of Lower Gwynedd, PA, formerly of North Wales, PA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025 at his home at Springhouse Estates. Born on December 10, 1934, he served his country with honor as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Jim proudly continued to serve his country for 29 additional years as a supply clerk for the Defense Logistics Agency.
As a youngster, Jimmy loved to race cars around the old Langhorne Speedway - winning dozens of trophies. He was an American car guy with a procession of Pontiacs, Chevy and Buicks through the years. Jimmy was a die hard fan of both the Eagles and Notre Dame football, catching 7 of ND’s 11 championships and both Eagles’ Super Bowl wins. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage and found joy in his collection of some 700 classical music CDs.
A well known curmudgeon, Jim could be hard to get to know. But underneath he had a heart of gold, regularly contributing to a number of Catholic Charities and as a 63-year subscriber to National Geographic. Jimmy was a close follower of the news and loved to talk politics and sports until his final days. But more than all of those things, he loved his family. Though a bit of a recluse, Jimmy loved to hear stories of what was going on with the family and never missed sending a card for holidays or birthdays.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jim Sr. and Sue, and his younger brothers, Jerry and Tommy. He is survived by his sisters, Sr. Barbara Nolan, SSJ; Patricia Neville; Michaeline Rodgers (Mike); and his four nieces and nephews, Karen Zeltner, Suzanne Trexler, Richard and David Neville.
A funeral service will be held on January 23 at 10:30 am at Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
