It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Joesph “JOE” Toner, age 54, who left us on February 12th, 2025.
He was born on December 8th, 1970, in Paoli, PA. He was the son of Edward Robert Toner (Patricia) and Barbara Jane Toner. Joe was a lifelong resident of Downingtown. He had been working for Eden’s Tree Company for many years.
Joe was a great man, caring & emotional with a little bit of attitude. He was a fun-loving son, brother, uncle and grandfather (PeePop). He enjoyed spending time with his family, his dogs and especially his grandchildren. He was a great lover of animals and will be missed greatly by his beloved dogs, Newt & Diamond.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He loved to spend time at the Chesapeake Bay and would always take trips to the mountains. Some of his favorite stompin grounds: The Chesapeake Bay, Clearfeild, S.B. Elliott State Park, Parker Dam State Park and the Pocono Mountains.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara (Smith) Toner and her companion, Gene Blevins of Downingtown, his father, Edward Toner and his wife Patricia; three sisters: MaryJane McCartney of Jacksonville, FL., Kim Napoli and her husband Gary of Coatesville, Pa., Mischelle Ceulers and her husband Brian of Coatesville, Pa.; and one brother: Thomas Toner and his wife Julie of Parkesburg, Pa.
He also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, stepchildren, grandchildren (ages 2-21) and his loving lifetime partner Shelia Griffith of Downingtown, Pa. They spent over 19 years together. Their bond was a true testament to strength, love and guidance through the ups and downs of life.
Joe’s life was not without loss. He was predeceased by his brother Ranney McCartney, his wife Dorothy Cushing and dear friend Tabitha Cleveland.
Each of these family members held a special place in Joe's heart, and their memories will forever be intertwined with his.
Though some of Joe’s battles were immense, the love that surrounded him was even greater. He touched the lives of many with his humor and was a dear friend to those who understood the light he possessed. As we pay tribute to his life, let us remember him for his love, laughter and the joyous moments he shared with us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday February 26, 2025 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 43 W. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335, followed by his Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Friends of Parker Dam or any local SPCA.
