James John Walsh

James John Walsh of Media PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 at age 86.

Jim was born to John and Marie Walsh on September 4, 1936, in Philadelphia PA. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1954 and from LaSalle College in 1958. His Army career began after his college graduation when he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant.

After 6 months active duty and 7 ½ years in Army reserves, he ended his military career as a Captain in the Army.

Jim’s automobile career began in 1959 when he began working at Walsh Ford Company in Media PA with his father, John Walsh, the owner. There he started an automobile leasing company, Drexel Fleets, Inc.

He was an active board member of the Philadelphia Ford Dealers Association. After Walsh Ford resigned the franchise in 1980, Jim became a partner in Autobahn Motor Cars, eventually doing business as Mercedes Benz of Devon.

Jim loyally served his community by giving generously his time, talent, and treasure. He served as a member of Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and the Media Rotary Club; and is in the Hall of Fame at the Media Youth Center. Jim’s 40-year contribution to Riddle Hospital made a significant impact. He was a founding board member of Riddle Health Care Foundation, general partner at Health Care Center II, and served with his wife Sue as Chair of the Riddle Annual Fund.

One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was enjoying the company of his fellow golfing friends at Overbrook Golf Club. There he served on the board of directors and he and his wife Sue took pleasure in 50 years of membership. Throughout his life, Jim loved summer days with his family and friends at their Ocean City, NJ home. His warm smile and laughter lit up any room he walked into.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Susan Ellen Walsh (née Miller), and his daughter Susan Marie Walsh (Jamin AAsum), his brother Robert P. Walsh (Vicki), sisters-in-law Diane Miller and Alexa Miller, nieces Karen Gray (Rob), Laura Harris (Todd), Ashley Miller (Patterson), nephew Brett Miller, cousins, and countless friends.  

He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Jack Walsh (Mary), and his brothers-in-law, Bruce Miller and Stuart Miller.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 1400 N. Providence Rd, Media, PA 19063.
