James H. Watson, age 82, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 30, 2020. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Heston and Sarah Watson (nee Stott).
James received his Associate’s Degree in General Studies, with highest honors, from Community College of Philadelphia in June, 1987; his Bachelor of Social Work, Summa Cum Laude, in May, 1990 and his Master of Social Work, May, 1997 both from Temple University School of Social Administration. He was awarded the W.W. Smith Scholarship, for academic achievement and community service in 1989 and 1990 and the Perceverantia Vincit Award from the Russell Conwell Adult Education Center for academic achievement in 1988.
James was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War era.
James had been employed as a Social Worker in the Diagnostic & Evaluation Unit for Southern Home Services in Philadelphia from 1990-1995; was a Child Advocate Social Worker from 1996-1997 for the Defender’s Association in Philadelphia; was a Social Worker from 1997-1999 for the City of Philadelphia, Department of Human Services, Division of Children & Youth (DHS) then became a Social Work Supervisor from 1999-2004. He also worked as the Director of Social Services from February, 2006 to October, 2006 for Baptist Children’s Services in Valley Forge, PA.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his brother, Charles Watson. He is survived by his sister, Mary Wingfield.
Services and interment will be private due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
