Janet M. Tyler (nee Miller), age 91, of Drexel Hill, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, Broomall, PA, and Burdett, NY, peacefully passed away on May 31, 2018. Born in Thurston, NY (Steuben County), she was the daughter of the late James Emmett (Bartlett) Miller and Nina Belle Miller (nee Kendall) and the oldest of five children.
Janet was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl Tyler, her brother, Joseph Miller, and her nieces Tina Marie Miller Travis and Denida Miller Hyer. She is survived by her loving daughter Carla Tyler-Polsz and son-in-law Steven Polsz, her grandchildren Richard I. Stow III and Diana Esposito (Andrew), her step-grandchild Adam Polsz (Christine), and her great-granddaughters Daphne Stow and Amelia Esposito. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Lois Kelley, James Miller and Charles Miller (Christine) and her niece Kathie Kardos (Tom) and nephews Robert Johnson, Steve Johnson, Leon Buck and Armin Bishop-Miller (Eva) and their extended families.
Janet was a lifelong Methodist and was baptized into the Methodist Episcopal Church and joyfully served her Lord through her memberships at Burdett Methodist Episcopal Church, St. Marks United Methodist Church, St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, and Union United Methodist Church. Janet served as a member of the United Methodist Women. She was well loved by the congregations there and was known for always
smiling and giving backrubs.
Janet loved her God, her family, nature, and animals. She had a gentle touch and a smile that could make any child smile. In the winter she enjoyed being a snowbird where she visited with her sister and her extended family. She cared for various family pets over the years ranging from birds, dogs and cats to fish, hamsters and even a snake.
She valued hard work and education. Janet had been employed as an Office Assistant, Nurse's Aide, and caregiver to her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and neighborhood children. After retiring and supporting her daughter through college, Janet declared it was her turn and began taking courses at Delaware County Community College for the joy of learning. She also enjoyed sewing, needlecrafts, quilling, calligraphy, drawing, and oil painting.
She was proudly a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, To Live Again, Association for Widowed Persons, and AARP. She volunteered at the Genealogical section of the Volusia County Public Library.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Thursday, June 7, 2018 10:00-11:00 AM at Union United Methodist Church, 200 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA and to her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Funeral Service followed by luncheon. Inurnment will be private.
