Jean Longnecker Grady, 93, of Malvern, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 25, 2019 one week shy of her 94th birthday. She will be remembered and missed for her wit, charm, generosity and strength.
Jean was the only child of Jacob Haldeman and Kathryn (née Campbell) Longnecker. She lost her mother at age four and was raised by her beloved stepmother Sarah (née Denehey) Longnecker from the age of five. Her father passed away when she was 13 years old. She graduated from the Shipley School in 1943, where she developed many lifelong friendships and participated in raising money for the war effort. This generosity was a hallmark of her life, and Jean continued to give selflessly to causes close to her heart throughout her life. Jean was an accomplished athlete and played competitive tennis until age 74. Her keen sense of humor, flamboyant personality and fashion sense contributed to her popularity among her friends and people she met on her many world travels. Jean had an impeccable memory for details and was always ready with a quip or a story. One of her favorite sayings was “always leave them laughing.”
She is survived by her three children W. Heyward Myers IV of Phoenixville, PA, Emily Welsh Myers (Richard Ault) of Auburn, AL and Sarah Sergeant (Joseph) Bones of Malvern, PA; four stepchildren Peter, Bill (Laura), Jim and Ann Grady, fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Among her greatest losses in life were the deaths of her youngest son, Jonathan Dickinson Myers, while serving as a firefighter in Norfolk, VA and her loving husband of 35 years H. Alan Grady, both in 2012; and her grandson Stephen Jacob Myers in 2017.
Her love for God endured until her death. She is now at peace in the hands of the Lord.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service, Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis in the Fields Church, 689 Sugartown Road, Malvern, PA 19355. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean’s memory to Main Line Meals on Wheels, Inc., P.O. Box 801, Devon, PA 19333, would be appreciated.
