Captains Log: August 5, 2021
Jill Grace Loftus – 73
(33 by “Auntie’s Law”)
Of Wallingford - Formerly of Lester
Jill passed peacefully at home, with family by her side, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born in 1947 to George and Elizabeth (nee Llewellyn) VonBergen. She had one sister and five brothers. She worked 31 years at The Franklin Mint, before her retirement in 1999.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth and her stepmother Kathryn (nee Radle). Also preceding her were her sister Mary Ann Cody, her brothers George, Robert, and Michael VonBergen, and her niece Elizabeth Todd.
She is survived by her sister of 47 years, Jayne VonBergen and by her brothers Ricky Sr. (Sharon) and Edward. She never had her own children, so she treated all her nieces and nephews as her “Kiddos,” especially Laura Heller, Shane (Megan), Thomas (Jean), Ricky Jr. (Lori), John, and Brittany VonBergen.
She had many foster children who deeply impacted her life, but the ones with the biggest impact on her life were Sean, Emma and Laura McIlvried, and April Whitworth Green.
She is also survived by her foster grandchildren, many great-nieces, and great-nephews, and too many cousins to count.
Jill loved life. She loved her whole family and was a big reason this enormous family stayed together. She loved all things Disney and was an avid collector of dragons. She had many dragon Knick knacks and Anne McCaffrey books. She loved theater and had a diverse collection of musicals on DVD, Cats being her favorite. She loved all animals, especially otters. She was a huge Star Trek fan, with a collection of DVD’s and VHS tapes of the movies and the original series, and memorabilia collected over the years.
Beam her up Scotty, her mission was a complete success.
