Joan M. Albert (nee MacKinnon), age 81, of Newtown Square, formerly of Radnor, passed away on February 24, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Murdoch William and Louise Augusta MacKinnon (nee Schmitt). She grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia. She attended Lowell Elementary, graduated from Olney High School in 1950 and attended Temple University.
Joan worked in Philadelphia for many years at Episcopal Hospital in the Radiology Department, and later as Manager of the Radiology Department at St. Joseph Hospital. She then went to work as a receptionist with the law firm of Drinker, Biddle in their Berwyn office. She retired in 2008 after 19 years of employment.
Joan was an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Radnor for over 30 years. During that time, she served on the Bolingbroke Mansion House Activities Committee, the ECS Lay-Chaplaincy Program, the St. Barnabas Homeless Mission Support Committee, the Altar Guild and the Annual Fair Committee.
Over the years, some of her favorite activities included reading good books, taking both domestic and foreign travel vacations and cruises, watercolor painting, dinner parties for family and friends, researching her MacKinnon family history, and treating children, nieces and nephews to parties, vacation trips, parks and restaurants.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband Walter C. Albert, Jr., her stepchildren Glenn Albert, Deborah Murschell and Gail McPeek, her brother Murdoch William MacKinnon, III, her grandchildren Alicia Albert, Travis Albert, Robyn Frazier, Sarah McPeek and Curtis McPeek, her nieces and nephews, whom she considered like her own children, Betty Jane Brock, Donna Petrilla, James Blattner, Christine Kiriloff, Dorothy Bechtle, Diane Hamilton, Denise MacArthur, M. William MacKinnon IV, Debbie Bonnell, Michael MacKinnon and Donna Goluboski, 22 great nieces and nephews and 7 great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy J. Parrish and Betty Jane Blattner.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Friday, February 28, 2014 10:00 AM-11:00 AM St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 400 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087 (610) 688-4830 followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment St. David's Episcopal Cemetery.
