Joan Alice Hindsley, age 86, on June 30, 2020 in Voorhees, NJ, formerly of Upper Darby, PA.
Joan Hindsley was born in West Philadelphia to Joseph Patrick Hindsley and the former Alice McLaughlin. She attended West Catholic High School where she was the captain of the dance club. This sparked a life-long love of musical theatre, a passion she generously shared with her young nieces and cousins often taking them to their first Broadway shows.
Joan spent the majority of her career at Wolf Barth, an import/export company in Philadelphia, receiving the company’s Woman of the Year award in 1982. Before and after her retirement in 2000, Joan traveled frequently to Ireland, Florida, and her favorite place on earth: The Jersey Shore. Joan and her large group of loving and colorful friends spent as much time as possible in Stone Harbor and Avalon where they hosted boisterous and genial parties.
Joan (or Aunt Joan, Joanie, Joansie, AJ - she answered to many names) was everybody’s Aunt. She cast her net of love far and wide, showering those in her life with her time, attention, and prayers, not to mention cards, letters, gifts, and photos taken with her trusty Minolta. Joan never missed the big moments — birthdays, First Communion, Graduation, Weddings — she was there with a smile, a song, and a prayer.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Alice Hindsley, brother Joseph M. Hindsley, and longtime companion, John Pierre Blisard.
She is survived by her loving nephew Joseph M. Hindsley, Jr. (Lisa); nieces Patricia, Kim, and Colleen Hindsley, Deborah Clark, and Lynda Markel (Mark); 10 grand nieces and nephews; Paige, Hailey, Dylan, Katelyn, Jennifer, Joseph, Matthew, Colleen, Mairead, Jessica; 3 great-grand nephews Joseph, Eddie and Mark, and a host of friends, family, and neighbors.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday, July 7, 2020 10:00-10:30 AM at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
Masks are to be worn to the viewing and Funeral Mass.
