Joel S. Wilkens

Joel Wilkens of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024. 

Born in Hershey, PA, Joel is the son of W. Douglas and Frances J Wilkens. He grew up in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. 

Joel was a graduate of the Concept School in Westtown, PA.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, John Wilkens III, and his son, Kristian A. Wilkens. He was preceded in death by his father, Doug Wilkens. 

Joel was a luthier by occupation and worked on the guitars of many world-famous musicians. He loved restoring vintage guitars and bringing them back to their original condition. 

Joel's other passions included music, cars, motorcycles, and dogs, especially Doberman Pinschers. Many of his clients became close friends due his ability to form strong relationships. Friends from his school days also remained close throughout his life. His friends describe him as “wicked smart, compassionate, a gentle genius, inspirational, and just an amazing overall human being". 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, and an update will be provided when that is scheduled.
