John F. Betz, age 94, of Newtown Square, PA, peacefully entered eternal life on February 17, 2022. He was surrounded by the love of his wife and children.
His devotion to his family and God supported him through his life journey and ultimately returned him to his heavenly home.
Born in Lansdowne, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and Caroline (née Ashcroft) Betz.
John spent his younger years working on his uncle’s farm in Bucks County. John then served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Subsequent to his service, John was awarded The Legion of Honor by The Chapel of the Four Chaplains (an award also presented to Presidents Truman and Eisenhower, as well Bob Hope and John Glenn). His service and leadership led him to become President of the Lions Club, using this position to improve the community. In his later years, John enjoyed volunteering with the Gertrude Stewart Foundation and teaching adult classes to the developmentally disabled. “Mr. John’s” big heart made him a favorite among the students.
John was Blessed with a big and loving family. John was the beloved husband of the late Elinore Rita Betz and Suzanne (née Haykel). He was the loving father of Susan Kershner, Linda Betz, Nancy Betz, Debra McCusker, John G. Betz, Daniel Betz, and Mary Patrice Mollick. All were raised knowing his kindness, honesty and learning about what it is to have a work ethic and a dedication to family values. In his marriage to Suzanne, he became a dear step-father to Frank, Lawrence, Gerald, Greg and Suzanne. John is also survived by his 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his siblings, Margaret Bell, William Betz, and Kenneth Betz.
John was the best story teller because he lived his life fully and enjoyed sharing those memories. John left an impression on all those he encountered in life’s journey. He was known for his contagious smile, heartfelt laugh, strong hugs, kind heart, and his mannerly ways~ a true gentleman. His caring nature and big love will live forever in our hearts.
