John Cavanaugh

John Leroy Cavanaugh, or Jack as he was known by, 84, of Downingtown, PA and formerly of Swarthmore, PA and Cape May, NJ passed away on January 1, 2017 after a brief illness.
Jack was born in 1932 to the late John A. and Anna (Simon) Cavanaugh. He grew up in Philadelphia, attended John Bartram High School and later served in the United States Army, where he utilized his athletic abilities and played third base on the Army team. He was married for 53 years to Rhoda Kier Cavanaugh, who passed away in 2008. They raised three children in Swarthmore, PA, where they formed friendships for life. He worked for USI Chemical as a Production Manager and retired from USI in 1987, which is where their life adventure took them to Cape May, NJ. He was a member of the Villas Fishing Club in Cape May and also formed longtime friendships there as well.
All who knew Jack will remember his smile, his wisecrack sense of humor, his love of baseball (Phillies) and football (Eagles). If you knew Jack well, you knew he was a caring man, a very old-fashioned soul with kind intentions and an extremely quick wit, and he was also a very proud man.
Jack is gone from our lives, but never from our hearts.
Jack is survived by his children: JoAnn Martinelli (Michael), Arlene Tarver (Bart) and John Cavanaugh (Lori); Grandchildren: Christopher, Nicholas, Thomas, Taylor, Michael, Lisa and Katie; Great-grandchildren: Jack, Luke, Harper, Quinn and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Lewis and brother, Ray Cavanaugh (Lidie)
Family and friends are invited to his visitation 9:30-10:30 AM Monday, January 9, 2017 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 43 W. Lancaster Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335, 610-269-3080 followed by his Funeral Service 10:30 AM. Intermittent will be at Cold Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rt. 9, Cape May, NJ 08204.
