John A. Donohue

John A. Donohue, age 80, of Havertown, PA, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, John was the son of the late Raymond and Marie Donohue (nee Krause). 

John was a 1956 graduate of St. Laurence School, a 1960 graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, and a 1964 graduate of Villanova University. 

John was an Owner and Partner of The Donohue Funeral Home along with his 2 brothers and 2 cousins.  He was an active parishioner of Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown, where he was a past member of the Finance Committee and a former President of the Athletic Association. 

John was a 4th Degree Knight of Trinity Council #3132.   He was a 45 year member of Llanerch Country Club where he formed lifelong friendships playing golf and cards at the Men’s Grille.  He was also a board member and former Chairman of the Membership Committee.

One of John’s favorite activities was doing the daily Jumble, Cryptogram, and Sudoko in the newspapers.  As a child, he enjoyed spending summers in Ocean City, NJ with his family.  Later in life, John and his brother Bob purchased a vacation home where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  John loved spending time with his grandchildren and always shared family stories and life lessons with them.

He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles. However, John was an avid Phillies fan and was at Veterans Stadium when the Phillies won the 1980 World Series.  He was also an enthusiastic Villanova Basketball fan and was so excited when they won the National Championship games in 1985, 2016, and 2018. 

John was the loving husband of Patricia “Trish” Donohue (nee Gerard) and the late Barbara A. Donohue (nee Wall).  Loving father of John J. Donohue, Michael K. Donohue (Fran) and the late James R. Donohue.  Dear grandfather of Michael, Chrissy, Caity, Megan, Kelly, Matthew, and Colin Donohue.  Also survived by Trish’s children Michael O’Connor, Kevin O’Connor (Ryan Williamson), and Kathryn Smith (Terry) and her grandchildren Mason, Riley, Lily, Mae, and Owen.  Brother of the late Raymond F. Donohue, Carolyn Fitzpatrick Ward, and Robert J. Donohue. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Monday, September 19, 2022 5:00-8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA and to his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA. Funeral Directors are welcome to visit the family starting at 4:30 PM on Monday. Interment Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Annunciation BVM Church Sanctuary Guild, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA 19083 would be appreciated.
