John Thomas Hay, 45, of West Chester and Berwyn, journeyed peacefully and without pain at dawn on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 into a heaven filled with babies, puppy dogs, cars with "good gas mileage" and Harleys.
Born in 1968 in Paoli, he was the beloved son of Patricia A. (Campbell) Hay and James D. Hay, Jr.
In addition to his parents, John left behind his brother James D. Hay, III and his wife Laura, his sisters Kathleen M. Naylor and her husband Brian, Patricia A. Pickard and her husband Rob and Regina E. Carey and her husband Shawn. John is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews Jimmie, Lee, Luke, Rob, Elizabeth, Michael, Grace, Catherine and Caroline who all loved him unconditionally and without question or qualification. He had a rather special feeling for their pet dogs "Sophie", "Sparky","Reesie-Cup" and "JoJo" and thoroughly enjoyed visiting them all at every opportunity! He will be missed terribly by his many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
John was a true "force of nature" with a strong personality and an occasional "my-way-or-the-highway" attitude, all of which was brought about in a loving and lovable manner and fashion. Not unlike Will Rogers, he never met a stranger. One of his favorite activities when he encountered someone new to his life was to immediately ask questions of them such as; "do you have kids?", " do you have a dog" "what kind of car do you have?" "do you get good gas mileage?" and so forth. When asked why he had so many questions he would immediately reply "I'm writing a book!". Although never able to read or write, John had a brilliant, inquisitive and retentive mind and he remembered for decades the things he learned that were important to him such as the above.
John's loved ones will be everlastingly grateful to Handi-Crafters, Inc. and The Devereux Foundation for the exceptionally marvelous and loving services that they provided to him for the last 23 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to John's Visitation 5:00-8:00 PM Monday Eve, May 12, 2014 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000 and 9:00-10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA., immediately followed by his Mass of Christian Celebration 10:00 AM.
