John Joseph Lyons

February 13, 1959 — January 7, 2024

Ocean View, DE

John Joseph Lyons, age 64, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 7, 2024. He was battling lymphoma and had complications due to pneumonia.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William P. Lyons and Elizabeth Mary (née Haigh) Lyons. John’s family moved to Havertown, PA, and he attended grade school at Annunciation of the BVM Parish. He was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, Class of 1977, and Saint Joseph’s University with a B.S. in Accounting, Class of 1981.

After graduating, John started his financial business career, married, and began raising his family in Springfield, PA. At the age of 35, he discovered his true professional calling. His love of justice, country, and serving and protecting others, led him to seek employment with the FBI. He became employed as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice, from 1995 until his retirement in 2016. He was assigned to the Newtown Square, PA resident agency, where he concentrated on white collar crime cases. John had both his CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) designations. After retiring as a Special Agent, he continued to work in various contract roles. His latest position was as a Litigation Financial Analyst with the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office, District of Delaware.

John was a man of Christian values and integrity. His faith in Jesus Christ grew and he rededicated his life to Christ in 2019 at Calvary Chapel during a believer’s baptism. His love for his wife, children, family and friends (many since childhood) was unconditional and selfless. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Joanne, who he married in 2010. He adored spending time with his children, supporting and encouraging them in their sports, interests, and dreams throughout the years. He had a large family and was grateful that he was so blessed. He was a compassionate, loyal friend and mentor who touched the lives of many. John especially enjoyed the beach and ocean. In 2020, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a beach house, so he could share this passion with his family.

John was the beloved husband of Joanne (née Miller) Lyons; the loving father of Jonathan Lyons (Molly Jackson), Andrew Lyons (Katelyn), Matthew Lyons (Estefania) and the loving stepfather of Candace Harkins. He was the devoted grandfather of Eden Lyons and Josephine Lyons. John is survived by his siblings, Beth Mintzer (Joseph), Mary Ellen Luongo (Don) and Bill Lyons (Lisa), as well as a large loving family including many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
