John A. "Pete" Maguire, age 77, of West Chester, PA, passed away on June 15, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Edward T. and Helen (nee Dwyer) Maguire, Sr.
John was the beloved husband of Margaret (nee Angell) Maguire; loving father of Michele Kosowski (Brian), David Griffith (Lisa), and Jeff Griffith (Nicole); proud grandfather of Tara Kosowski, Evan Kosowski, Kendall Griffith, Matthew Griffith, Ryan Griffith, Kyle Griffith, Katie Griffith, and Kelsey Griffith; and dear brother of the late Tom Maguire. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Stephen Angell, niece and nephew Kelley and Tom Maguire, and great nephews Liam Sagherian, Aidan Sagherian, and Teddy Maguire.
John grew up in Bala Cynwyd and attended Harriton High School. After graduation, John enlisted in the Marine Corps and rose to the rank of corporal. Upon completion of basic training at Parris Island, Maguire was assigned to the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, DC where he served on the Presidential Honor Guard.
After his honorable discharge from the Marines, John worked for a number of insurance companies, including John Hancock. He relocated back to suburban Philadelphia when he opened his own firm, the Maguire Insurance Agency, in King of Prussia.
For years afterward, he was a fixture on the social scene and in establishments up and down both Lancaster and Montgomery Avenues. Holidays and special occasions were always cause for festivities, with Halloween and the Marine Corps birthday being particular favorites of Maguire's. Indeed, John could always be counted on to memorialize St. Patrick's Day in some spectacular fashion. In 1993, he wed Peggi Angell in an "emergency" ceremony on 9/11. John and his wife, now known as Maggie, settled in West Chester where they entertained family, friends, and neighbors on a regular basis.
Relatives and Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, June 21, 2019 10:00-11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment Private.
