John W. "Jack" McEnroe, age 88, of West Chester, PA, formerly of Summit, NJ, passed away on November 1, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Irene McEnroe (nee McLoughlin). He was a 1943 graduate of West Catholic Boys High School and a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph University, both in Philadelphia. He was an outstanding basketball player and held numerous records at both schools. He served as President of Students during his senior year at St. Joseph University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded in action while crossing the Rhine River. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was an avid tennis player and golfer and was a former member of the Canoe Brook Country Club.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Therese M. McEnroe (nee Conan), his children John W., Jr. (Megan), Theresa O'Connell (John) and Maureen Harkins (Brian), 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Chuck McEnroe.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday, November 7, 2014 9:45-10:50 AM SS Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to St. Joseph University, 5600 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131 would be appreciated.
