John T. Nicholson

John Talbot Nicholson, 72, of West Chester, PA, peacefully passed away on May 5, 2024. Born in Glen Cove, NY in 1951, he was the son of John Edgar Nicholson and Bertha May Nicholson.

As a child, John enjoyed countless adventures with his brothers and large group of cousins. Whether in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey or at Flying Moose Lodge in Maine, John loved the outdoors and feeling grass, dirt and sand between his toes.

He was a proud graduate of Westtown School (‘70) and Earlham College (‘74), where he was Captain of the soccer team. John later went on to earn both MBA (Healthcare Administration) and Juris Doctor degrees from Widener University.

John was an active member of the community in both West Chester and Kennett Square. Continuing with his love of soccer, he coached teams for his three biological children and their network of friends. He also refereed high school soccer and collegiate games throughout southeastern PA, often having the opportunity to officiate games for his former players. He also built a successful legal practice focusing on Elder Care.

John married Dorothy Kennedy in September 2000.

He was preceded in death by his father, John E., his brother Allen, and step-son, James McCabe. John is survived by his mother, Bertha May, his wife, Dorothy Kennedy, brothers; James Nicholson (Janet) and David Nicholson (Linda) and children; Bryan Nicholson (Catie), Megan Marcinko (William), Bradley Nicholson (Jessica), and Ryan McCabe (Jessica). “G-Dad” will also be missed by his 9 grandchildren: Avery, Sawyer, Grayson, Laura, Harper, Graeme, James, Layla, and Rory, as well as many nieces and a nephew.

A master of one-liners and catch phrases, garden vegetables and amazing Christmas cookies, John will be missed by all who knew him. While we will miss the regular “JTN-ism’s,” we know it was your time to “Edge through the Hedge.”
