John J. Quinn, Jr, age 75, passed June 9, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, beloved son of the late John J. Quinn, Sr and Florence Marie (nee Hyland) Quinn.
John graduated from West Catholic High School, and then proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps in the Viet Nam War, where he received the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement. Upon returning, he had a career of over 30 years in the Philadelphia Fire Department and was promoted to Captain. After retiring from the PFD, he worked for 9 years as a safety inspector for OSHA.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from St. Joseph’s University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.
John loved the New York Yankees, as well as summers in Sea Isle City, where he and his wife Joanne have owned a home for over 40 years. In 2017, the mayor of Sea Isle presented him with the Key To The City in gratitude to his heroic actions in Viet Nam.
John was the loving husband to Joanne M. (nee Devine) Quinn and father to Maureen Quinn, John J. Quinn, III and Patrick (Amanda) F. Quinn. He was the dear brother to Margaret, Martin, Florence McFadden, Francis, Daniel, Joseph, Thomas, Anthony, Michael, and Edward.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday June 15th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. There will be a viewing Friday June 16th from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at The Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter and Paul, 1723 Race Street, Philadelphia followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am. Interment to follow at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to K9s for Warriors, www.k9sforwarriors.org providing Service Dogs to military veterans suffering from, mental health, PTSD and brain injury.
