John "Rush" Shanahan, M.D., 88, of Honey Brook, PA passed away on December 3, 2013 at Paoli Hospital.
Born in Omaha, NE in 1924, Rush was the son of Nannie C. (Sheehy) and John B. Shanahan, both deceased.
He was a graduate of Georgetown University, Duke University and Georgetown Medical School where he studied Internal Medicine.
He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II, where he practiced General Medicine from 1949-1954.
His office, J. Rush Shanahan, M.D. was located in Lankenau Hospital where he specialized in Rheumatology. He was a Clinical Professor at Medical School from 1960-1991.
In addition to practicing medicine, he was the owner and operator of Shanahan Tree Farm from 1967-1991.
He was a member of the Bryn Mawr Chapter of SPEBSQSA, Barbershop singing organization.
He was the loving husband of Jeanne H. (Hentig) Shanahan; loving father of Stephen R. Shanahan, Antonia M. Shanahan, Joshua P. Shanahan, Candace J. Weitzel and Tara Golish; dear grandfather of Jessica Kara (Scott Mascio); and great-grandfather of Andrew J. Kara. He was predeceased by his daughter, the late Christina E. Shanahan and his sister, the late Nannie Clay Shanahan.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 12:00-1:00 PM Saturday, December 7, 2013 and to his Funeral Mass 1:00 PM at St. Peter's Church, 2835 Manor Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. Interment Private.
