John V. (Jack) Dougherty, age 94, of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1930, he was the son of the late Cornelius Michael and Ella Gertrude (nee Dougherty) Dougherty. Jack was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne A. Dougherty, with whom he shared over 68 years of marriage.
He dearly loved his family, his daughter Eileen Ordinetz (the late Terry), and his sons, the late David Dougherty, Andrew Dougherty (Catherine), the late Bill Dougherty, and his daughters-in-law Nicole Dougherty and Penny Dougherty, grandchildren Diane (Chase), Michael (Jessica), Brandon, Caitlin, and Maura, as well as his great-granddaughter Lennon. He was the brother of the late Joseph Dougherty, Dorothy Streleckis, and the late Therese McCourt.
Jack graduated with a B.S. in Engineering from Villanova College in 1953. He worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company for over 30 years prior to retiring in 1990. He enjoyed his work, but enjoyed retirement more. He volunteered extensively, especially at Ss. Philip & James Parish in Exton, where he was deeply involved both in the spiritual life of the parish and as a handyman repairing facilities, and at the Malvern Retreat House.
An avid photographer, Jack started by working in his own darkroom, and later enjoyed using digital photography to create greeting cards and banners for family celebrations. Mostly, Jack treasured his time with family and will be fondly remembered for both his deep and abiding faith and his warm and genuine hugs.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation at 10:00 AM and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2835 Manor Road, Coatesville, PA 19320, followed by his interment at All Souls Cemetery, 3215 Manor Road, Coatesville, PA 19320.
