John Witt

John Kenneth Witt, aged 76, of Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 23, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, NY, John was the loving son of the late John and Irma Witt (nee Krueger).

John, a.k.a. “Mr. Warmth,” was one of New York City’s Finest, proudly serving in the Police Department of the City of New York for 20 years in both Manhattan and Queens Village. He began his police career in the Tactical Patrol Force, a special unit of the NYPD. John was eternally proud of his service to his country. He served as a Shipfitter Pipe 3 in the United States Navy on the USS Antietam (CV-36) and the USS Independence (CV-62) aircraft carriers. John was a man of many skills, talents and trades who could fix anything. John graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. After retirement, John spent a later career in security at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ. John was a member of the Lake Naomi Club in Pocono Pines, PA for 45 years. He was also a member of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association of the City of New York for 52 years.

John was the loving husband of over 50 years to Margaret “Peggy” Witt (nee Reheuser); beloved father of Christine Huf (Peter), Constance Bennett (Sean), Matthew Witt (Colleen), Kenneth Witt, and Daniel Witt (Danielle); devoted grandfather of Myles, Michael, Matthew, Logan, Emma, Regan, Harrison, Georgia, Brady, Amelia, Tessa, Greyson, and Devon; caring great-grandfather of June, Lainey, and Julian. He was predeceased by his siblings Herbert, Lothar and Henry Witt.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 6:00-9:00 PM at Salem United Church of Christ, 108 Church St, Pocono Pines, PA 18350 and Thursday, August 29, 2019 9:30-11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. Interment at Pocono Lake Cemetery, 395 Old Rte. 940, Pocono Pines, PA 18350.
