Joseph G. “Joe” Brand, III PhD, age 75, of Chester Springs, PA, formerly of Wayne, PA, passed away on December 28, 2020.
Born in Lebanon, PA to the late Joseph G. Brand, Jr. and Bessie L. (nee Knerr) Brand.
He was the beloved husband of Gail C. Corrado, MD (nee Orner); loving father of Megan J. Brand (Tim Berry), Andrew J. Brand (Rhonda Cinotto); dear step father of Lisa A. Cannon (Brian); caring grandfather of Logan J. Cannon; and brother of the late Mary Frances Cressman.
Joe was a research neuroscientist for Monell Center in Philadelphia for over 49 years. His research encompassed various aspects of the sense of taste in both humans and animals. He became known internationally for his research on cats. He was able to demonstrate that cats, big and small, had a genetic defect that prevented them from having sweet taste. The significance of this finding was that it showed the direct connection between genes and behavior. Cat owners and scientists alike found this finding fascinating, and Joe experienced a new found popularity.
Joe enjoyed traveling for work and pleasure. He loved being outdoors with nature. He was a chocoholic.
