Joseph Breslin Sr. “Joe”, age 94, of Havertown, PA passed away on January 13th, 2023.
Joe was born in Lansdowne, PA to the late Michael and Margaret Breslin (nee Steiner).
Joe was the beloved husband to his wife Kathleen J. Breslin (nee Joyce). He was predeceased by his brother; John Paul Breslin (Marie Breslin) and sister Jane B. Kenny (Gerard M Kenny).
Joe was the loving father to Joseph R. Breslin Jr. (Jennifer), and William M. Breslin (Tracy).
He was also a devoted Grandfather to Kevin, Mark, Kathryn, Moire, and Seamus.
Joe attended West Catholic Boys High School in Philadelphia. He left high school at age 16 to enlist into the US Navy during World War II. Joe served on the USS Tarawa carrier during the war. He was honorably discharged and enlisted into the Pennsylvania State Guard while finishing high school at Lancaster Catholic High. Joe then attended LaSalle College with a focus on Science and Pre-Legal studies. After college he owned businesses in the automotive and insurance industry. Joe then decided to switch his career focusing on the Elevator industry that included working with Westinghouse, Haughton, and Otis.
Joe had a wide variety of interests and hobbies to keep him busy. He was involved in politics at the local, city, state, and national levels and ran for Congress at one point. Joe and his wife loved to spend time together on their sailboat. He also spent many enjoyable hours scuba diving. He was a pilot and loved planes especially WWII aircraft. He flew his own Cessna plane and was a member of a glider club. He supported and volunteered many years of his life to The Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum in Horsham, PA. The museum is dedicated to preserving the aviation history of the Greater Delaware Valley.
Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA . A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA.
In Lieu of Flowers, contributions to: Chit Chat Charity which supports Women and Children in need throughout the Delaware Valley area, at Chit Chat Charity, 346 E. Lancaster Ave., Apt. 501, Wynnewood, PA 19096 would be appreciated.
