Joseph John Finnerty, 90, of Langhorne, PA, and Sebastian, FL, passed away on November 24, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Born March 30, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (nee Cassidy) Finnerty. Joe was the beloved husband of almost 69 years of Gisela (nee Kolb) Finnerty; loving father of Sheila Amodei (Carmine); adoring grandfather of Joseph Amodei, Kate Cohen (Jonathan) and Emily Amodei; and proud great-grandfather of Riley Grace Cohen. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Finnerty.
Joe attended North Catholic High School and upon graduation served in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Gisela, whom he married and remained devoted to for the next 69 years. Joe’s strong work ethic and dedication led him to Graphic Arts in Philadelphia where he worked for 40 years, first as a lithographer and eventually as the plant foreman.
Joe Finnerty was a family man who loved his God and family above all else. Known to his loved ones as being generous and kind, he also had a quick wit and a talent for delivering jokes and one-liners. His affection for his hometown sports teams was evident, earning him the nickname "Eagle Joe" among friends.
During his 30 years of retirement in Florida, Joe became an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing cards, watching football, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister and President of the Men’s Club at St. Luke’s Church. Above all, Joe cherished moments sharing stories, jokes, and silly songs with family and friends. He was always happiest in the company of Gisela, his children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Saints Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment is private.
