Joseph D. Freney, age 75, of Kennett Square, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
Born in Philadelphia to the late Joseph D. and Alice (nee Gibbons) Freney,
Joe was a proud graduate of Malvern Prep in 1960 and Villanova University, Class of 1964, where he later served as President of the Alumni Association. After graduation, he began a lifelong career in the tax and wealth management divisions of various banks, serving as Vice President at banks such as Central Penn, Meridian, and Christiana Bank and Trust.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne Poetter Freney with whom he shared 17 years of marriage, his loving children Kathleen M. Smith (Keith), Joseph D. Freney (Beth), Robert E. Freney (Dawn), Anne L. Jani (Amit), Daniel J. Freney (Jane), Meghan E. Henry (William), Maureen E. Wilkins (Michael) and Kevin T. Freney (Emily). He was Pop Pop to his 19 beloved grandchildren Kristopher Smith, Michaela Freney, Kolbe Freney, Jack Freney, Nicholas Freney, Kaitlyn Freney, Matthew Freney, Thomas Freney, Emily Freney, Julia Freney, Caroline Freney, Kieran Jani, Erin Freney, Coleman Freney, Ryan Henry, Grace Wilkins, Charlotte Wilkins, Brendan Freney and Claire Freney. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Barbara A. Freney (nee Hilferty), his daughter Karen M. Freney and his sister Christine A. Freney.
In addition to his love for his family, Joe was an avid fan of Villanova football and basketball. The family requests relatives and friends wear blue and white to his services.
Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 10:15 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
