Joseph Martin Greim, 90, of Gladwyne, PA, passed away February 28, 2023.
Born January 19, 1933 in Gladwyne, PA, he was the son of the late John Barthal and Delia Teresa (nee Gorman) Greim.
Joseph served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor for the Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, retiring in 1998.
Joe/Dad/PopPop, as he was called, was a real charmer. In his eyes, his wife and family were everything. Loretta and Joe raised their family in Gladwyne, and when Joe was not working at the Water Company or Williamson’s, he would be grooming his meticulous yard and flower beds or hosing down his driveway or kids! He and Loretta spent many summers making memories at the Atlantic City shore house and spending long days on the beach and riding bikes on the boardwalk with all the grandkids. Although he could not swim, he still would never turn down a chance to drive his father- in –law's boat in Ft. Lauderdale each year when he would take the family to visit. He was an avid Phillies and Villanova Basketball fan to say the least. Holidays were always a special time as the family gathered to be together. Christmas being his favorite holiday beginning with the traditional mass celebration, Gladwyne Fire Trucks/Santa stopping at his driveway to distribute oranges/apples and candy canes to all, sit down dinners, family photos, gift exchanges and polyanna that would go into the pre-dawn hours. After Loretta’s passing, Joe took up residence at Brandywine Living in Phoenixville. He fought tooth and nail but says it was the best decision in the end and thrived another 7 wonderful years surrounded by so many wonderful staff members and residents and Brandywine truly became his home away from home. You could find Joe exercising each morning, making necklaces for his granddaughters, or creating floral arrangements during his crafting sessions. But do not dare interfere with his schedule when it came time to play Bingo on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday afternoons. If you came to visit during that time, he would politely excuse himself saying it was not a suitable time! Joe, we will miss your beautiful blue eyes, your tremendous smile and contagious laugh. Goodbye for now you BEAUTIFUL soul. Hope you are eating lots of pretzels and chocolate ice cream and celebrating with mom. YOU are so Beautiful! (His favorite saying!)
Joseph was the beloved husband, of almost 55 years, of the late Loretta (nee Williamson) Greim; loving mother of Joseph Greim (Claire), Michael Greim (Maureen), Christine Groener (Steve), Andrew Greim (Michelle), Timothy Greim (Linda), Maureen Colt, and Matthew Greim (Kristin); adoring grandfather of 18; proud great-grandfather of 6 with 2 on the way; and dear brother of John Greim and Kate Hagarty. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Greim.
