Joseph James Hunt, age 91, of Havertown, PA, passed away on February 21, 2020. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the late son of George V. and Margaret Hunt (nee Brady). Joseph started work in the energy industry as a Mechanical Engineer at Boeing/Vertol. For much of his career he worked for, and retired from, United Engineers, Inc. (part of Raytheon Engineers).
Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Catherine V. Hunt (nee Drakeley) and loving father of Joe, Cathy, John, Bill, Jim, and the late George Hunt.
Joseph was a graduate of John Bartram High School, attended Pennsylvania Military College and served in the United States Navy from 1946 and 1947.
Since moving from Landsdowne in 1962, Joseph and his family have been longtime residents of Havertown, where much of his extended family still live today. His most favorite pastimes were spent with his loving wife of 57 years, going to the Jersey shore, taking short trips to Lancaster, and working on their large garden lot at Rose Tree Park. When gardening was done for the day, a well-earned dinner at the Media Boat House was the norm.
Besides gardening, Joseph loved to work on the house, and fix (not buy) anything from broken hoses, door locks, doorbells, windows, to washers & dryers, and other major appliances. He often loved stopping at the local hardware stores and later Lowes and Home Depot to marvel at all of the “stuff”.
Joseph’s favorite solo hobby however was motorcycles. He loved to ride them, talk about them, and go see them. He said each time he climbed on his motorcycle to head out on his favorite 926 route, it felt like the very first time he ever got on a motorcycle. Easy rider Joe and his V-Star 650.
Joseph (Poppy) will be missed by his loving grandkids who filled his life with laughter and joy; Brady, Carolyn, Sara, Drew, Maddie, Nicole, Corey, Sean, and James. Joseph was also the doting great grandpop to Leo and Keira!
