Joseph “Joe” C. Murray, age 74, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away suddenly on May 25, 2022. Born in Darby, PA, he was the son of the late Michael C. and Mary Helen Murray (nee Gibson).
Joe was a graduate of LaSalle College and Notre Dame Law School where he was a member of the Notre Dame Law Review. He practiced law for 45 years, starting his career in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. Promoted at 29, he was the youngest chief of homicide. Following 13 years of service for the city of Philadelphia, he moved to private practice. Joe never lost a case in his 45-year career.
In retirement, he enjoyed reading, spending time at the beach, and golfing. However, it was his cherished circle of family and friends that he loved the most. With a larger-than-life personality, unmatched determination, and a heart of generosity, he left an impact on everyone he met. His family and friends will miss him more than words can express, but they also know that his memory will be a blessing carried for a lifetime.
Joe was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Murray (nee Baraldi); loving father of Michael F.X. Murray and Kristin M. Nash (Tim); dear brother of Francis X. Murray, Paul B. Murray, Charles M. Murray, Dennis P. Murray, and the late Michael F.X. Murray; caring grandfather of Shane Jacobsen (fiancé Luisa Klemm), Jack Murray, Colin Murray, Abigail Nash, and Lily Nash.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation 9:00-10:50 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave. Springfield, PA 19064. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
