Joseph (Joe) T. Levy, 83, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, April 10 at his home in East Goshen, PA.
Joe was born at home in August 1932 in Philadelphia to Winifred Mary McLaughlin and Joseph Levy. He was the oldest of four children and is survived by his younger siblings, William (Margie), Walter (late, Regina), and Anne. Joe grew up in West Philadelphia and graduated in 1950 from West Catholic High School for Boys where he was a strong student and athlete. Two years later, at the age of 19, he married his childhood sweetheart, Bernie Gibbons, who he met "down the shore" on Wildwood's boardwalk. Joe and Bernie were married for 57 years until she passed away in 2009.
Joe and Bernie raised five children together in Westtown, Pennsylvania where they were among the founding families of SS Simon and Jude Parish. He was active in his parish, often contributing his time and resources, particularly to the Sisters of the IHM who taught at the school. Joe was dedicated to God and actively carried out his faith by serving others.
Joe worked as an insurance agent for Prudential, and obtained his CLU from the American College. He was well known for his honest and dedicated service to his clients.
He leaves his five children Donna, Marianne (Mark) Hellerman, Winnie (Jeff) Engelbrecht, John (Marietta Hanigan) Levy and Joseph Levy; eight grandchildren, Jason and Daniel (Laura) Hellerman, Justin, Kate, Tom and Marty Hanigan Levy, and Ana and Julie Anna Engelbrecht; and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Hellerman.
The family will greet visitors 9:30 - 11:00 AM Thursday, April 14, 2016 at SS Simon & Jude Church followed by a Mass of Resurrection 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery at later date.
