Joseph "Mike" Vandergast

Joseph M. “Mike” Vandergast, age 81, passed away June 18, 2023 after a courageous 23-year battle with cancer. Beloved son of Joseph T. Vandergast and Helen (nee Muldoon) Vandergast.

Survived by his loving wife, Jane (nee Zimmerman) C. Vandergast;  children, Michael J. (Kathy) Vandergast, Joanne Ware, and Jean (Paul) Maitre; siblings,  T. Joseph (late Carol) Vandergast and Brian Vandergast; grandchildren, Donald (Candace), Paul (Julie), Jacqueline (Mike), Christine, Edward, and Mikayla; great-grandchildren, Gracen, Logan, Colton, Dalton, Harper, and Violet. Preceded in death by his brother Dennis Vandergast.

Mike had many hobbies and pastimes including fishing, reading, music, and art.  He was a devoted member of Nativity B.V.M. Church and through his faith shared his love of the Church with others.  He was a generous, loving, family oriented man who had a profound love for his wife, children, friends, and his pastor.

Mike was a member and sponsor at Gamblers Anonymous and greatly appreciated his sponsor, while also providing member support himself.  When not helping others, you could find Mike at his favorite fishing hole in Marsh Creek, working on his crossword puzzles, visiting his favorite restaurants, or taking a well-deserved nap. He is dearly loved, cherished, and will forever be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday, June 22^nd from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Nativity B.V.M. Church, 30 E. Franklin St., Media, PA.  Interment to follow at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.
