Julia Maslak

Julia Maslak passed away at home on May 23, 2024, at the age of 98.  Julia was born on November 9, 1925 in Argentine, Pennsylvania.   Her parents, Katherine Yuchnick and Michael Maslak had both immigrated to the United States from Ukraine in the early 1900s.  

After the family moved to New York, Julie graduated from Johnson City High School in 1944.  She then worked for the NY State Electric and Gas Company as a key puncher.  Subsequently, she worked at Ozalid, a division of GAF, and then Amphenol Aerospace.  In 1988, Julie moved to Pennsylvania to be close to family members and lived with the Henderson family in Bryn Mawr.  Known to everyone as Aunt Julie, she loved to go out for breakfast or lunch, bake special deserts, and garden, especially to line the garden borders with snow drops and grape hyacinths.  She was also known to indulge a few special dogs with many treats.

Julie was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael Maslak and Peter Maslak, her sister, Anna (Maslak) Shlatz, her niece Tanya Maslak, her great nephews, David Maslak and Richard Shlatz, and her great niece Deborah Shlatz.  She is survived by her niece Linda (Shlatz) Henderson, her nephews Myron Shlatz and Michael Maslak, Jr., and her five great-nieces Lauren Henderson, Kristen (Henderson) O’Brien, Katherine (Kathi Shlatz) Latson, Katherine (Katie Maslak) Madson, and Julia Ann Maslak.  She is also survived by two great-great-nephews, Alex Maki and Quinn O’Brien, and three great-great-nieces, Ashley O’Brien, Brooke Madson, and Magnolia Langston.

Julie always cared for her family in many special ways.  She will be forever missed.  A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 13^th at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to a charity of their choice in Julie’s memory.
