June E. Perkins (nee Elgertha Wyoline Rodgers), peacefully made her transition with the Lord on July 6, 2016.
Born in June 1924 in Bertha, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Ulysses L. and Mayme (Davis) Rodgers.
June spent her childhood in Atlantic City, NJ, where her father was Pastor at Holy Trinity Baptist Church and she served as the pianist.
Following her graduation from Atlantic City High School, in the 1940's, she attended Virginia State University, where she received her Bachelor's degree.
June relocated to Philadelphia, PA and became the interim organist for St. Monica's Episcopal Church.
She attended Virginia State College where she met and married Katus Blakey, Sr. and gave birth to their son, Katus Blakey, Jr. (Reggie)., followed several years later by her second child, June.
In October 1953, June was united with Cleveland G. Perkins, with she shared 56 years of Holy Matrimony until his passing in 2009. They resided in Southwest Philadelphia growing their family with the additions of Cleveland, Jr., Rodger and Sheri. They relocated to Lansdowne in 1971.
June was a dedicated wife and mother, remaining a homemaker for many years, raising her children until she made the decision to become a teacher. She returned to college and received her certificate in Early Childhood Education from Temple University in 1971. She was a dedicated, hard-working teacher, and was recognized for her contributions until her retirement in 1984.
Throughout her life, June enjoyed sharing her many creative talents; mucis, art, crafts and gardening. She passed these creative traits onto her children. Her friends and family were always excited to receive a greeting card personally designed by "JEP". She loved entertaining family and friends with piano performances. Every spring, she was always gardening and maintaining her beautiful flower garden at her home, garnishing them with her favorite roses.
She was the beloved wife of the late Cleveland Goodman Perkins; loving mother of Katus Blakey, Jr. (Reggie), June Washington (Arthur), Cleveland Perkins, Jr., Rodger Perkins and Sheri L. Perkins-Hofer (Micheal); loving grandmother of Charles Blakey, Quentin Perkins, Johanna Jacobs, Adam Washington, Caleb Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Jaime Perkins, Natalie Hofer; loving great-grandmother of Quimani, Journey, Gabriela, Dakota, Brooklyn and a host of extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation July 14, 2016 from 10 AM. to 11:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by her memorial service at 11:30. Interment Edgewood Cemetery, Glen Mills, PA.
