Kathleen O'Keefe

Kathleen M. O'Keefe (nee O'Neill), age 61, of Wayne, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on June 18, 2017. Born in Darby, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and JoAnn O'Neill (nee Norman).
Kathleen grew up in Havertown in a large, loving family. She attended St. Bernadette Grade School and Villa Maria Academy for high school. She was an accomplished pianist and swimmer.
Kathleen received her Bachelor's Degree from Jefferson University and her Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
She conducted research into AIDS and other diseases in the 1980's when she worked at the Wistar Institute. She rose to become the Technical Director of the Cytopathology Lab. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. She was currently employed as a Cytologist with the Women's Health Care Group of PA in Oaks, PA at the time of her death.
When her two daughters were born she worked at private labs in order to be able to spend more time with them. She was a constant volunteer at their schools and was very involved with their lives.
She moved around several times, including Los Angeles for eight years, but returned home to Havertown seven years ago where she has been surrounded by family and friends who loved her.
Kathleen was a voracious reader and passed this passion on to her children. She especially enjoyed spending time down the shore in Ocean City, NJ with her family as a child, later bringing her own children and creating many happy memories there.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her brother, Jack O'Neill. She is survived by her loving daughters Amy Justice (Neil) and Laura O'Keefe, her siblings Mary Ellen Golden (David), Judy Singleton (Ben), Anne Robinson (Bruce), Maureen Nentwig (Joe), Peggy Jackson (Bruce), her sister-in-law Michelle O'Neill, her granddog "Jack" and her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Thursday, June 22, 2017 9:30-10:20 AM St. Bernadette Church, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kathleen's memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 would be appreciated.
