Kathryn "Cass" Kinney

Kathryn “Cass” Clouser Kinney aged 98, of Bryn Mawr PA, formerly of Westfield NJ, passed away peacefully January 25th, 2023.

She is survived by her daughter Lee Kinney Anthony (Bryn Mawr, PA), her son Brian Scott Kinney and daughter-in-law Nancy Guididas Kinney (Mountainside, NJ) and her daughter-in-law Beth Driscoll Kinney (Norwalk, CT), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Samuel M. Kinney Jr., her son Samuel M. Kinney III and
her grandson Russell Kinney.

Cass will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was everything to her and she embraced it with a quiet, joyful love. Smart as a whip, kind, wickedly funny, Cass made each person feel like they were the most important person in her world. She is missed by all who knew her.

Born Nora Kathryn Clouser to Ross and Jessie Clouser she was the youngest of 5 children. Her father died before she was born. She spoke fondly of growing up in New Bloomfield, PA and regaled her grandchildren with stories of her grandfather and growing up on the farm.

Cass attended Penn State and graduated in 3 years in 1944 and was a lifelong Nittany Lion fan. While at Penn State she met the love of her life, Samuel Marks Kinney, Jr. Sam and Cass married shortly after graduation. Cass went to work at the telephone company and Sam went to law school. They moved to Westfield and started their family.

Cass was engaged in the Westfield community and was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was also a long time member of Echo Lake Country Club. Cass was an active volunteer. She was a cub scout leader, a member of the Overlook Hospital Auxiliary, Twig at Children’s Specialized Hospital, The Garden Club of Westfield, and Westfield Service League.

Cass loved to travel. She and her beloved husband Sam traveled the world both for business and pleasure. Cass continued to travel on her own later in life. Cass’ grandchildren were very special to her. She took each one on a trip just the two of them. They all remember this as a special time that was filled with fun, laughter and left them with a close relationship with their grandmother that they all cherish.
