Kathryn "Kay" Mecca, of Scranton, Pa., passed away after a brief illness on March 11, 2017 in West Chester, Pa. at the age of 80.
She was the daughter of Robert P. and Marguerite Murray Lonergan.
Kay graduated from St. Patrick's School in Olyphant ('54) and Marywood College in Scranton ('58). She was employed as a medical social worker and an elementary school teacher.
She married Donato Mecca, MD and they resided and raised their family in Scranton.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Donato Mecca, her three children Dr. Kevin Mecca, Clarks Summit, Erin Mecca, Lambertsville, NJ, and Keith Mecca, Esq. and his wife Nadine and their three children, Kaden, Brooke and Maxwell, West Chester, Pa. Her siblings are Erin Murray and her husband, William, Brian Lonergan, Peggy Steinberg and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey and Philip Lonergan. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert P. Lonergan, MD, and her sister in law, Santina Palmieri Lonergan.
Kay was gifted with beauty, a quick Irish wit, and a deep love for her faith, family, friends and especially, her three grandchildren. Kay was a warm, loving, and generous person who hosted many family gatherings. She had a deep devotion to The Blessed Mother and she was always proud of her Irish heritage. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Gregory's in Clarks Summit. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a contribution be made to: St. Patrick's School Scholarship Fund, 104 Channing Avenue, Malvern, Pa. 19355.
