Lawrence "Larry" Flood, age 47, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on September 12, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Paul W. and Carmella Flood (Nee DeStefano). Larry and his family moved to Drexel Hill in 1971. Larry came from a wonderful loving family.
In addition to his parents, Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Laura L. Flood (nee Meredith). He met Laura in high school and they became high school sweethearts. They married in 1988 and had been together for 32 years. He is also survived by his children Lawrence M. Flood, Andrew J. (Alexa) Flood and Samantha L. Flood, his grandson Vincent J. Flood, his siblings Rose (Jim) Downey, Margie (Mark) Manley and Mary (Glenn) Egleston, and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Larry was a 1987 graduate of Upper Darby High School. He went to Penn State Delco (now Penn State Brandywine) where he played soccer for 2 years. Larry was always an athlete. He played baseball for a short time, but soccer became his number one sport. He started playing soccer in middle school, where he found his niche, in goal. He loved being a goalkeeper! In high school, he played all 4 years, was a 2 year varsity player and in his junior year was given "honorable mention" for the Central League. Larry also played for the Delco Select team.
Larry began his coaching career when he was in his early 20's. He coached multiple teams at every level. He began his high coaching career in 1999 at West Chester East High School then went back to Upper Darby High School to coach. In 2013 he became the head varsity coach at Upper Darby.
From 1989 to 1995 he was a Correctional Officer for Delaware County Prison. He always loved to cook. He attended the Philadelphia Restaurant School where he received his degree in Culinary Arts.
