Leo Joseph Yingling, Jr., 80, of Downingtown, PA passed away on June 25, 2024.
Born in Bainbridge, MD in 1944, he was the son of the late Leo J. Yingling, Sr. and Frances Yingling (née Muci).
Leo was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Yingling (née Daly); loving father of Lisa Marie King and Denise Ann Schlesinger (Andy). He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Grace & Ian Schlesinger and Erin King. Leo was the oldest of 4 boys and is survived by his brothers; Dennis (Eleanor), Julius and David (Elise). Leo was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Sue Yingling, and his nephew, Jeffrey Yingling. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Leo graduated from St. James High School, class of 1962, where he was a star football player. He also played sports for the neighborhood Briarcliffe Association. After high school, his first job was at Roy Tweedy’s Butcher Shop in Holmes, PA, where he learned the meat cutting business. He went on to be a meat manager for Great Scot Market and the big chain supermarkets including, Genuardi’s, Safeway and Giant. After retirement he did demos for BJ’s Wholesale Club in Downingtown.
Besides watching the Sixers and Eagles games, Leo loved taking his boat out on the water for a day of fishing. He enjoyed “oldies” music, especially Elvis. Another favorite past-time was playing cards with his wife and closest friends and Texas Hold ’Em at the Downingtown Senior Center. Leo’s big personality and smile filled every room he entered. Everyone loved Leo! He will be missed by all!
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2024 followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 332 Manor Ave, Downingtown, PA.
