Lester Jean Deschenes, Sr., age 83, a resident of Collegeville, PA, formerly of Scotch Plains, NJ, departed this life Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013 peacefully at his home with family members by his side after a lengthy illness. Lester was born on August 31, 1929 in Salem, MA, the son of H. Paul and Marie (Berube) Deschenes. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Jane. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012. He was preceded in death by his brothers Paul of Marblehead, MA, Raney of Elkins, WV, Richard of Salem, MA and Donald of Cape Cod, MA.,
He is survived by his son Lester J. Deschenes, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA and his children Anne and Jenny of Tucson, AZ and his daughter Dr. Therese C. Deschenes-Fresconi, her husband Gary and their children Elizabeth, Mary and Gabriel of Malvern, PA. He is also survived by his sister Estelle of NH.
Lester served in the Coast Guard in Cape May, NJ during the Korean War. He received a Bachelor of Business degree from Fairleigh Dickinson College, Madison, NJ. His early years of business were spent with Federal Pacific in finance. With this experience, he joined with two other partners and acquired Lord Jeff Knitting Company, which became a very successful menswear distributor to many are department stores, John Wanamaker being just one. After a successful number of years dedicated to Lord Jeff and growing its business they sold the thriving company to General Mills, Inc. From that time until the present, Lester had applied his financial talents in many successful commercial real estate endeavors and had been semi-retired.
Lester was an enthusiastic golfer and loved every aspect of the sport. He also loved to spend vacations with his family by the seashore in Cape May, NJ or Cape Cod, MA. Lester always had a quick wit about him and maintained his vigor throughout his long illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 10-10:50 AM St. Patrick Church, 104 Channing Avenue, Malvern followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Great Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Malvern where military rites will be accorded.
