Lillian Rose Pratico, born Letteria (Laboccetta) Carcione, made her way to Newtown Square in 1951 with her new baby and her husband of 4 years. Now a 65 year resident of Newtown Square, Lillian Rose Pratico turned 102 on November 10, 2016.
Born and raised in the Italian Market section of the city to immigrant parents, Lillian spent the first 32 years of her life as a seamstress in a factory, helping with the care of an ailing sibling, then running the household as her mother grew older. She rode horses, played tennis, went to business school and learned to bake and cook. An amateur singing career brought her much joy, acting in small local theatres along Broad Street.
Once settled in Newtown Square, Lillian and her husband Lou became active members of St. Anastasia's parish. Their 2 children, Louis and Catherine, attended St. Annie's for 8 years. Lillian was instrumental in the early days of volunteerism in the parish. She was the right hand of Ann Murphy, who started the Cancer dressing program. Large bolts of gauze were cut into strips, folded into pads for cancer patients and delivered. The dynamic duo also facilitated monthly delivery of homemade casseroles to St. John's Hospice.
Even in retirement, Lillian was the neighborhood seamstress. She mended, sewed on buttons and hemmed many mini-skirts. Draperies were a specialty. She was her husband's sidekick outdoors, as gardening was a favorite pastime for both. Flowers, vegetable and peach pies!
Well into her nineties, Lillian spent her days cooking and doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed Morning game shows, Jeopardy and the Phillies on TV. Visits from friends and family always made her laugh, especially her 3 great-grandchildren. She often would peek out the door at her still colorful garden in wonder, smiling at the beauty!
She lived a long, quietly beautiful life where laughter and food were the main ingredients. She left quietly in peace with the strength of an angel.
Lillian was the beloved wife of the late Louis F. Pratico; loving mother of Louis F. Pratico, Jr. and Catherine (Pratico) Potter; devoted grandmother of Emily(Potter) Fioravanti and Joshua Ry Potter (Erica Bristow Potter); dear great-grandmother of Francesca Lillianna Fioravanti, Domenic Matthew Fioravanti, and Olivia Louise Potter.
