Lloyd C. Wilkinson, 86, of West Chester, PA and Long Beach Island, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 31, 2017.
Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1930, Lloyd was the son of the late Lloyd J. and Emma Wilkinson (nee McCauley). He was predeceased by his brothers, Owen and Walter.
He proudly served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne.
He was a 1949 graduate of Upper Darby High School and then worked for Acme Markets. He was a 1957 graduate of West Chester State Teachers College and earned his Masters degree from Villanova University.
Lloyd taught at West Chester University from 1960-1991, where he coached football, gymnastics, and lacrosse and was named Professor Emeritus. In 2004, he was inducted into The Sturzebecker Foundation Hall of Fame of West Chester University. He was also a longtime lacrosse official.
He taught and supervised student teachers at the University of Delaware and, upon retirement, he taught at Immaculata Preschool.
Lloyd co-authored 2 textbooks on Physical Education. He was known for his creativity and innovative teaching style. He loved the shore, playing the guitar, and spending time with his family.
He was the beloved husband of Marion "Mickey" A. Wilkinson (nee Annett), with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; loving father of Patricia Jackson (Gilbert), Lloyd Stephen (Dawn), Maureen Reuther (Robert) and Anne Wilkinson (the late Raj Bhangu); Pop Pop to Conor, Devon, Carson, Maddie and Shane; brother of Ruth Chandler (Barry); uncle of many cherished nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 9:00-10:20 AM Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Rd, West Chester, PA 19382 followed by his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
