Lois Shelton Wilson of Haverford, PA, died January 19, 2015 at the VNA Hospice of Philadelphia after an illness. She was born August 7, 1935 in Charlotte, NC to Thomas McKendree Shelton, Jr. and his wife, Louise (Holt) Tate Shelton, the oldest of their four children.
She graduated high school at Chatham Hall, Chatham, Va. in 1953, where she roomed with Hildreth Wilson, the sister of her future husband, Eric Lane Wilson. She attended Radcliffe College in 1953-54, and later earned a B.A. (1985) and an M.A. (1990) in Religious Studies at Villanova University.
After Radcliffe, she lived for several years in New York City and in Princeton, NJ. After her marriage (November 7, 1962 in Princeton, NJ), she made her home first in Philadelphia and for many years in Villanova, PA, and later in Bryn Mawr, PA and Haverford, PA.
A convert to Catholicism, Lois was heavily involved with the Carmelite Order, and was very active in the church, first at St. Thomas of Villanova and later at Our Mother of Good Counsel in Bryn Mawr, attending Mass daily. She worked for almost two decades as an assistant at the Archives of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
She is survived by her son Anthony W. Wilson and his wife, Dolly, of Stoneham, MA; her daughter Rosemary Wilson and her husband, Patrick Johnson, of West Chester, PA.; a sister, Catherine Shelton of Philadelphia; a brother, Alan Shelton of Charlotte, NC; and a sister-in-law, J.B. Shelton-Spurr. Her oldest brother, Thomas McKendree Shelton, III died in 2009, as did her former husband Eric.
Services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 11:00 Am at Our Mother of Good Counsel, 575 W. Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr. PA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, Carmelite Monastery, 26 Harmony School Road, Flemington, NJ 08822.
