Loretta M. "Ret" Widmaier (nee Malloy), age 61, of Wayne, PA, formerly of Philadelphia and Narberth, PA, passed away on October 17, 2014. Loretta was employed as a Nurse Practitioner for the Philadelphia VA Medical Center for 27 years.
She was the beloved wife of John G. "Jack" Widmaier, Jr. and the loving mother of John G. Widmaier, III. Dear sister of Martin, Michael and Edward Malloy. Also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Loretta spent her life caring for others. After graduating from Gwynedd Mercy College she worked as a nurse at the Lankenau Hospital and then at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. During this time, she returned to Gwynedd Mercy to receive her Masters Degree in nursing. Eventually, she returned to Gwynedd Mercy University again, this time to teach at the School of Nursing. Following this, she accepted a position at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center to work in the Nursing Education Department. After attending Temple University in Philadelphia to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner, she spent the last 17 years of her career caring for the Veterans of the United Stated Armed Forces. After four years of struggling with brain cancer, she had to retire from the job she truly loved and for the remainder of her life was saddened that she had left her patients behind and could no longer care for them. During the last year of her life, when the ravages of her battle with cancer became most apparent, she never gave up and willed herself to go on. Aside from her family, she leaves behind a long list of friends who supported her until the end. She was loved and will be truly missed.
