Lou Lekus, Jr.

Lou Lekus was born September 13, 1922 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Alios and Stephanie Lekus (nee Kaus). Amid his college years at the University of Michigan, he was a lieutenant and fighter pilot during World War II, flying a B-26 bomber over Europe. Returning to school after the war, he obtained B.S. and M. S. degrees in Ann Arbor, studying mathematics and marketing. In 1947, he married Edith Ruth Summers, with whom he had three children before her 1979 death. Pursuing an engineering career, he joined General Electric’s aerospace practice in the Philadelphia suburb , King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and moved his young family to nearby Strafford. During the 1980s, he lived mostly in Taipei, Taiwan, managing G. E.’s far east aerospace operation. Returning a decade later, he settled in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and married and then was divorced from Christina Chen, who he had met in Taiwan, He pursued his favorite sports of skiing and golf into his 80s and survived cancer twice. He recently moved to nearby Haverford, where he died on August 19, 2020 following a home accident. He is survived by his three children, Barbara and Steve, who still reside in the Philadelphia area, and Laura, who has long lived in the Denver, Colorado area.
