Louis Belmonte, Sr.

September 6, 1931 — March 13, 2015

Louis R. Belmonte, Sr., age 83, of Dania Beach, FL, passed away on March 13, 2015. Born in Devon, PA, he was the son of the late Belisario and Mary Belmonte (nee Diyenna). Lou loved spending time with his family. He was extremely proud of his children and appreciated every moment he spent playing with his grandchildren. Lou enjoyed the projects he worked on almost as much as the people he worked with. No one looked forward to the autumn season in Pennsylvania more.

He was a 1950 graduate of Tredyffrin-Easttown High School. Lou went on to obtain licensure as both a Professional Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer, working on a large variety of major highway / bridge construction projects in both the Philadelphia and Miami areas. Working with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways / Transportation in the Philadelphia region, Lou was involved with the original construction of both Interstate 76 as a surveyor, and Interstate 95 as an Area Construction Engineer.

Lou moved to southeastern Florida in the early 1980's to work as Resident Engineer on the construction of a new Metro Rail transit system in downtown Miami. He would go on to work in the Miami area for more than 25 years primarily with Beiswenger Hoch and Associates where he ran their Construction Engineering and Inspection Department, while often serving as Resident Engineer on their most significant projects including sections of Interstate 95, Interstate 195, Interstate 395/McArthur Causeway, the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826), and the Port of Miami Bridge - a brilliantly illuminated high level twin box segmental bridge over Biscayne Bay connecting downtown Miami and the Port of Miami - a signature of the Miami skyline at night.

He is survived by his wife Mary Anne Belmonte (nee Daleo-Muzi), his children Louis R. (Kathleen) Belmonte, Jr. and David J. Belmonte, 10 grandchildren, and his stepchildren Philip Muzi and Angelique Poerio. He was predeceased by his 11 brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Saturday, March 21, 2015 10:00-11:00 AM Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Strafford followed by his Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
