Luther Rife
February 9, 1939 — July 7, 2013
Luther L. Rife, age 74, a 40 year resident of Glen Mills, PA and a 23 year resident of Cape May, NJ, passed away on July 7, 2013 from congestive heart failure. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late Luther A. and Marion L. Rife (nee Law).
Luther was a 1957 graduate of Pottstown High School and a 1961 graduate of Muhlenberg College where he received his B.A. in Economics. He served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged.
He was a self-employed Real Estate appraiser and real estate broker. His memberships included the National Association of Realtors, the National Association of Environmental Risk Auditors, Senior Member of Independent Fee Appraisers and the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers.
Luke was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church in West Chester and a charter member. He was a Council member and Chairman of the Finance Committee for 12 years. He taught Sunday School for several years. He participated with his sons in Indian Guides through the local YMCA. He was the Boy Scout Troop #222 Committee Chairman, where his two sons, Geoffrey and Christian, each achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Luke was extremely proud of their accomplishment.
Luther was also a member of the West Chester Masonic Lodge F&AM #0332 of Pennsylvania. He was a former board member of the West Chester Salvation Army.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Judith G. Rife (nee Gochnaur), his sons Geoffrey S. and Christian L. Rife (Jane), his grandson Justin L. Rife, and his sister Marion High of Cornwall, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Inurnment Service, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 11:30 AM Cold Springs Presbyterian Church Mausoleum, 780 Seashore Road, Cold Springs, NJ 08204 and to his Memorial Service Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:30 AM Advent Lutheran Church, 1601 Green Lane, West Chester, PA 19382.
