Margaret "Margie" (Yankanich) Giger, age 89, of Holmes, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her son's home in Ridley Township after a valiant fight with cancer on March 25, 2025.Margie was born in Milmont Park, PA, one of eight children of the late Stephen and Mary (nee Adomniak) Yankanich.
Margie grew up in Milmont Park, Woodlyn and Holmes and attended Ridley Township High School, graduating in 1953, where she was a cheerleader and served on the class reunion committee. Upon graduation, Margie worked for the Gulf Oil Company. After her children were in school, she went to work at the Sears catalog phone center in Norwood and worked her way up to become the assistant to the Regional Manager in the St. David's offices. When those offices closed, she became the Office Manager at Associated Specialty Contracting in Glen Mills, PA until her retirement.
Margie thoroughly enjoyed her many trips over the years to Florida and Rehoboth Beach with her best friend, Margaret "Peggy" Charles as well as trips to Philadelphia and Swarthmore seeing plays with her sister, Betty, and friends Peggy and Betty Lou Zizza. Margie cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always looking forward to supporting them at various school and sporting events.
Margie enjoyed cooking being known especially for her deviled eggs, pierogis, crabs and spaghetti, Christmas cookies, and not to be forgotten, her infamous Liverwurst Ball. She enjoyed knitting, where she was loved for knitting baby sweaters for all the babies born in the family and was an avid reader, completing 2-3 books per week. Mrs. Giger was the wife of the late Wm. Gary Giger and sister of the late Janet Randall, Barbara Wimer, Betty Boyer, Mary Yankanich, John Yankanich and Steve Yankanich, sister-in-law of the late Betty Lou Yankanich, Joni Kokoszka, Frank Kokoszka, Elwood Boyer, Rich Wimer, Jay Randall and Frank Sadusky. Margie was the mother of Linda G. Small (Robert) and Richard G. Giger (Lisa), sister of Judi Sadusky, "Granny" of Ryan Small (Alyssa), Jason Giger (Trisha), Alison Barmes (Brian), Joe McGoldrick (Jenna) and Ryan McGoldrick (Darla Foti) and great-grandmother of Genevieve "Evie", Layla and Delanie Giger and Logan McGoldrick, and loving aunt to 25 nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
The family would also like to give their grateful appreciation to Joyce and Amanda of the Crozer Home Hospice support team doing a great job caring for Margie with empathy, dignity, and above all, wonderful care.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewings: 6-8 PM Monday, March 31, 2025 at Knoetgen-Donohue Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Avenue, Morton, PA. and 10-11 AM Tuesday, April 1,2025 followed by Funeral service at 11 AM. Interment at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA.
